The Sex Offender Registry is a database of all sex offenders residing in Maryland. Additionally, The Maryland Registry is included in the National Sex Offender Registry which means that a conviction will follow you even if you move.
Three Tiers of the Registry
Tier I
Is reserved for the least serious offenders. If you are ordered to enroll in the Registry at Tier I, you will have to remain on the Registry for 15 years. Crimes that can land you on Tier I include: 4th Degree Sex Offense and/or Possession of Child Pornography.
Tier II
Is reserved for offenders who committed more serious offenses but that don’t require Tier III registration. If you are ordered to enroll in the Registry at Tier II, you will have to remain on the Registry for 25 years. Crimes that can land you on Tier II include: Distribution of Child Pornography and 3rd Degree Sex Offense (can also be Tier III depending on the facts).
Tier III
Is reserved for the most serious offenders. If you are ordered to enroll in the Registry at Tier III, you will have to remain on the Registry for the rest of your life. Crimes that can land you on Tier III include: Rape, Sex Offense of a Minor, and/or any 1st or 2nd Degree Sex Offense.
