  • Rape
  • Sex offense
  • Child pornography
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • Statutory rape

About The Maryland Sex Offender Registry

The Sex Offender Registry is a database of all sex offenders residing in Maryland. Information about convicted sex offenders, including their address, photo and the type of crime they committed are publicly available to be accessed by anyone.

Additionally, the Maryland Registry is included in the National Sex Offender Registry which means that a conviction will follow you even if you move.

About The Three Tiers Of The Registry

Tier I

Tier I is reserved for the least serious offenders. If you are ordered to enroll in the Registry at Tier I, you will have to remain on the Registry for 15 years. Crimes that can land you on Tier I include: Fourth-degree sex offenses and/or possession of child pornography.

Tier II

Tier II is reserved for offenders who committed more serious offenses but that don’t require Tier III registration. If you are ordered to enroll in the Registry at Tier II, you will have to remain on the Registry for 25 years. Crimes that can land you on Tier II include: Distribution of child pornography and third-degree sex offense (can also be Tier III depending on the facts).

Tier III

Tier III is reserved for the most serious offenders. If you are ordered to enroll in the Registry at Tier III, you will have to remain on the Registry for the rest of your life. Crimes that can land you on Tier III include rape, sex offense of a minor, and/or any first- or second-degree sex offense.

Defending Against Sex Crime Allegations

Defending against allegations of a sex crime can be extremely difficult. The trends amongst the general public in the state of Maryland in the past ten years have been overwhelmingly in favor of believing alleged victims of crimes even if there are inconsistencies in their story.

Hiring an experienced attorney who knows how to be firm with witnesses without angering the jury is of the utmost importance. The state’s case often relies upon the testimony of expert witnesses.

At BSS Law, LLC, Bradley Shepherd knows how to aggressively cross-examine the state’s experts to expose flaws in their methodology and analysis. He may also hire defense experts as another avenue if needed.
